OVERTRAIN?
David Evans
location: Barnsley, South Yorkshire
Question:
Hey Dorian I just want to say what a big fan of yours I am, your
training philsopies and supplements are always superb.
I have had my best results from training like you describred in your
book. However recently I have been reading information on HIT by Arthur Jones,
Mike Mentzer etc. I have tried training how they described and found out that
I got better results training your way. I know your style of training is based
on Mentzers but what is your opinion of this way of training.
David Evans
Hi David,
Well I suppose my training approach is like a cross between mentzer / jones and
more conventional training. I think the mentzer approach too extreme and limited
and although in theory sounds great doesn't work in the real world. Having said
that I think Mike got everyone thinking and trying less volume and freaquency
which is great as many people do overtrain.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your interest.
The first couple of years after my retirement were very tough,
I had been striving towards one goal for the better part of my
adult life and now it was over. Slowly I began to appreciate the
time and freedom to do things I was
not able to do before , my
relations with other people are probably better now that I dont
have such tunnel vision. And yes I do deserve a break! My workouts
are now more fun altough I do still train pretty hard most of the
time,
I do weights 3x weekly and some cardio type stuff 2-3 days per
week . Dorian |
4 year lay-off.
Canton Las Vegas, NV
Question: Hi Dorian,
I have always liked your approach to bodybuilding and nutrition. You are very
analitical. Im just getting back into bodybuilding after an almost 4 year lay-off.Im
psyched and training very hard. I havnt had the chance to sift through all the
information on new supplementation to get to the facts on what works and what
doesnt. Im currently taking vitamins/minerals, whey protien, glutamine, and a
natural herbal test- booster. I havnt made my mind up on creatine yet mostly
becouse Im not sure of how much it really
taxes the liver and kidneys. (I used to take it) And as far as the other supplements
like NO2, CLA..etc...etc... Im not sure if they are worth my time. My question
is...what supplementation would you recommend to fully maximize effort into growth.
Thanks,Canton
Hi Canton,
I have my own line of supplements now, check www.cnpltd.com or
www.propeptide.com for more info.Pro peptide is simply the most effective
protein supplement on the market.I reccomend creatine e2 our new creatine ester
which everyone is raving about, far more effective and without the side effects
reported with regular creatine. Dorian |

Question: I am curious as to what your current workout regimen
consists of ? Has it been a tough adjustment for you to leave the competitive
scene or do you feel that you deserve a well earned rest ? Being British myself
I would like to tell you how proud I am of you for always carrying yourself as
a true professional in this sport .
Thanks Chris Kelly |

Jay Grafov
location: MN, USA
Question: Hi Mr Yates. I have started using high intensity training after watching
the Blood & Guts DVD. I started seeing gains right away. My question is,
did you use the same principle and intensity while doing abs,
especially the Obliquus? Thanks, Jay
Hi Jay,
Thanks for your question. I must be honest and say I did very little ab work
as I have natrually good developement , if I did direct work it was only crunch
and reverse crunch without extra resistance as I didnt want to increase muscle
size in my waist. DorianWarriors Story / APRIL

Question: Mr Yates,
First of all I would like to say thank you for everything that you have done
for bodybuilding, I have followed you through your career and have been inspired
by your accomplishments, especially your last Mr. Olympia. You have true Warriors
spirit. Thank you. My question is, can you expand more on your philosophy of
intensity training and how you grouped your muscle groups together and how you
decided your workout schedule. I have been using volume training and noticed
the effects, but I have read about how intensity training can give you unbelievable
results, but I have never fully understood the philosophy, even with my research.
You are considered the Godfather of intensity training and your feedback would
be greatly appreciated. Mr Yates thank you for your time, With respect, your #1
fan
William Engels.
Dear William,
The fact that it is the INTENSITY of excercise is the stimulas for muscle growth
and not the volume coupled with the requirement for recovery led me to my workout
philosophy along with a certain amount of trial and error.I suggest my book Warriors
Story and dvd Blood n guts for more in depth info.
Thanks Dorian... |

Form Benjamin Leto
location: Gettyburg, Pennsylvania
Question:
Without a doubt you are the best bodybuilder. You're one of the
few who used good form along with unmatched intensity to reach your olympia physique.
I am very eager to begin your one-working-set-per-excercise, but am curious as
to what kinds of methods you used to extend your sets beyond failure. Forced
reps, negatives, drop sets...I know these are some of the methods you used, but
how did you determine which ones to use. Did you do negatives each workout? Or
did you alternate? Whatever help you can give me would be great. Thanks Ben
Hi Benjamin,
I recommend going to failure plus 1 or 2 forced reps where practical. I use super
intense methods such as negatives or rest pause sparingly ussually on lagging
bodyparts.Training in this style should be cycled , after 5-6 weeks of high intensity
work cut back and train below failure for 2-3 weeks to avoid overtraining.Taking
a week of complete rest occaisionaly is also a good idea.
Good luck Dorian
