Default Training Strains/Pains

Hi,

Has anyone suffered from any injuries related to their training? And if so how did you manage to overcome them?

Personally I've strained more than my fair share of muscles and gained some muscle knots in the process. To overcome strains I've found temporary releif from visiting a massage therapist and on occasion my local oesteopath. :mad

After reading some of Dorian Yate's old books I've noticed that he uses an ultrasound machine to break down scar and assist with the healing process. Has anybody else used altrasound or had experience using it to help the healing process??

Yes...I've torn a ligament in my shoulder, and literally smashed a disc in my lumbar.

Ultrasound is excellent for getting muscles to behave that would otherwise expose you to further injury.

Pre and post workout stretching is also helpful.

Default Pains...

I am fortunate, even after 3+ decades of HIT I have never suffered a direct training-related injury. Probably as Mike Mentzer, my early influence, enticed me to always lift using my muscles vs momentum. If I can't handle a weight under full muscle control then I know I didn't earn it.

Default Training strains/pains

I have strained my lower back several times over the years. And the strange thing is, it was rarely ever from doing deadlifts or anything like that. It was almost always from twisting it the wrong way while reaching for a doorknob, things like that. I was deadlifting more than 300 lbs. back in my 'wanting to be a powerlifter days'. Yet I would hurt my back basically doing nothing, maybe while sleeping, laying on it the wrong way or something. I have also injured both left & right biceps, about a year apart during the past couple of years. I would strongly recommend getting help for something like this. I didn't do that, & now I don't think my biceps are quite as strong as they were before the injuries. I used to regularly curl almost 100 lbs. Now I am only using 81 lbs.

The only injury i have suffered is a shoulder injury. I just try and work around it. On the other hand i was in a bad car crash when i was 18 and had torn ligiments on my lower back. When i started body biulding at 22 i stayed well clear of back exercises as i felt that my back was still tender. After a bit of persuasion i started doing light deadlifts and now its one of my strongest exercises.

Yes, ultrasound treatment really works but it needs to be done by a physiotherapist – anyway by a professional.
The treatment is normally to be done three times a week (one day yes – one day no) until no more pain.
My physiotherapist is working in a sports center – no problem having enough of clients.

the groin pain is often the result of a groin strain. This is the same as any other drawn or tense muscles, but it happens when the thigh muscles are stretched across borders. This can lead to small muscle tears of pain and swelling.
